First things first: congratulations to all Year 13 students who have just completed their exams! We wish you a long, joyful summer as you prepare for the exciting opportunities ahead.

Of course, whether you’ve taken A Levels or Scottish Highers, results day is likely to be somewhere in the back of your mind too, and it’s natural to be nervous about how your results might determine what comes next. But did you know that some Trinity qualifications carry UCAS points that can contribute towards your university application? In this blog, we explain which qualifications are eligible and how they can support your higher education journey.

Which Trinity College London qualifications are eligible for UCAS points?

Broadly speaking, the qualifications that are eligible for UCAS points are those which are regulated and sit at Level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF); most commonly, these are Grades 6-8.

The number of points available varies depending on the qualification and, where applicable, the band awarded. To give a clearer indication of where and how these are applied, please see below.

Arts Award

Yes, Gold Arts Award also carries UCAS points. If you have successfully completed this qualification, you will have earned yourself 16 UCAS points.

How will UCAS learn of the points I have been awarded?

If you have successfully achieved one of the above Trinity qualifications since you submitted your UCAS application, you may be wondering how this will contribute to you getting into university.

The answer is easy: Trinity directly informs UCAS of any results of any assessments that have taken place that may attract UCAS points. There is no need for candidates, teachers or schools to notify UCAS directly.

I’m entering Year 13 in September – how do I ensure the UCAS points I earn through Trinity qualifications contribute to my university application?

In short, aim to take or record your exam – or submit your portfolio – as soon as you feel ready to do so. For Gold Arts Award portfolio submissions and face-to-face Music and Drama exams, we advise that this should be no later than the second Friday in June to make sure we are able to process the results and report to UCAS in time. For digital exams, we advise slightly earlier – before the May half term break.

Please also be aware that these timeframes do not take into account the additional time an exam would take to be processed in the event of an exam being referred for review before the result can be released.

And finally...

Best of luck to all getting exam results in August!
