Trinity a Chynllun Cenedlaethol Cymru ar gyfer Addysg Gerddorol: Trinity and the Welsh National Plan for Music Education

Roeddem yn edrych ymlaen at gael darllen Cynllun Cenedlaethol ar gyfer Addysg Cerddoriaeth Llywodraeth Cymru, a ryddhawyd fis Mai eleni. Yn y blog hwn, byddwn yn adolygu rhai o agweddau allweddol ar y cynllun a sut ellir defnyddio'r ystod eang o'r cymwysterau a gynigir yng ngholeg Trinity yn y cyd-destunau hyn i gefnogi dysg a dilyniant cerddorol.

We were excited to read the Welsh Government's National Plan for Music Education, released in May of this year. In this blog, we review some of the key strands from the plan and how Trinity's broad range of qualifications might be used in these contexts to support musical learning and progression.


Profiadau cyntaf

Mae ein Dyfarniadau a'n Tystysgrifau newydd mewn Datblygiad Cerddorol wedi'u dylunio ar gyfer unrhyw leoliad cerddorol: i ddysgwyr sy'n gweithio'n unigol, yn yr ystafell ddosbarth neu unrhyw gyd-destun creu cerddoriaeth arall. Gall cyflawniadau cerddorol bob dysgwr gael eu cydnabod drwy unrhyw fath o weithgarwch creu cerddoriaeth, a chaiff dysgwyr eu hasesu drwy broses o oruchwyliaeth barhaus yn eu sesiynau gan eu harweinydd cerddoriaeth. Wedi'u dylunio i achredu'n ffurfiol Fframwaith Datblygiad Cerddorol Sounds of Intent, mae hygyrchedd y cymwysterau hyn yn golygu eu bod yn addas i ddysgwyr mewn lleoliadau anghenion addysgu arbennig ac anableddau, a hefyd gellid eu hymgorffori yn y cyd-destun hwn fel rhan o addysg gerddorol y Blynyddoedd Cynnar ac Ysgolion Cynradd.

Fel arall, mae Arts Award Discover yn ymwneud ag amlygiad i'r celfyddydau, yn cyd-fynd ag ethos y rhaglen Profiadau cyntaf yn berffaith. Cewch ddysgu sawl ffurf ar gelfyddyd yn ymwneud â cherddoriaeth y gall eich pobl ifanc eu hadnabod, cymryd rhan yn un gweithgarwch celfyddydol (neu gymaint ag yr hoffech), dysgu am gerddor, cyfansoddwr neu delynegwr, a rhannu'r hyn maent wedi'i ddysgu a'i fwynhau gydag eraill.

Llwybrau cerddoriaeth

Mae adran Llwybrau cerddoriaeth y cynllun, ar gyfer pob dysgwr rhwng 11 a 16 oed, yn cydnabod bod rhai sy'n cymryd rhan mewn creu cerddoriaeth yn awyddus i fynd ymlaen i ddilyn llwybr gyrfa yn y dyfodol, a'r rheini sy'n gwneud hynny at ddibenion iechyd a llesiant. Yn draddodiadol, sefyll yr arholiadau cerddoriaeth wedi'u graddio yw un o'r ffyrdd mwyaf cyffredin o gyflawni'r cynnydd hwn a, gan fod arholiadau bellach ar gael mewn Cerddoriaeth Glasurol a Jas a Cherddoriaeth Roc a Phop, yn wyneb yn wyneb neu'n ddigidol, ni fu erioed cynifer o opsiynau ar gael i fyfyrwyr i'w galluogi nhw wneud yr hyn maen nhw'n dda am ei wneud a chyflawni eu nodau.

Ar gyfer y rheini sydd ag awydd datblygu sgiliau cerddorol nad ydynt yn seiliedig ar berfformio neu ar offerynnau nad ydynt wedi'u cynnwys yn ein hystod o arholiadau cerddorol wedi'u graddio, gall yr Arts Award fod yn ddewis arall gwych. O rapio a DJ'io i gyfansoddi a chynhyrchu recordiau, mae'r Arts Award yn ffordd arbennig o sicrhau y gall pobl ifanc barhau i ddatblygu eu ffurf ar gelfyddyd, beth bynnag fo honno! I ategu at hynny, o'r dyfarniad Arian ymlaen, mae ychydig o newid yn y ffocws o ddysgu am y celfyddydau a chymryd rhan ynddynt, i saernïo eu ffurf ddewisol ar gelfyddyd, archwilio opsiynau gyrfa posibl, a datblygu sgiliau arwain a all fod eu hangen arnynt yn y gweithle.

Mae ein holl arholiadau Gradd 6-8, dyfarniad Aur yr Arts Award a Dyfarniadau a Thystysgrifau Lefel 3 mewn Datblygiad Cerddorol wedi'u rheoleiddio'n llawn ac yn cynnig pwyntiau UCAS, gan gefnogi pobl ifanc gyda'u camau nesaf yn eu gyrfa ddewisol.

Gwersi cerdd

Mae'r amrywiaeth eang o gymwysterau a gynigir yn Trinity yn ymwneud â rhoi'r dewis, ac mae hynny'n hollbwysig wrth gefnogi myfyrwyr i fanteisio ar eu dawn a'u huchelgais unigol. Fel y soniwyd eisoes, gall myfyrwyr ddechrau arni drwy benderfynu a ydynt am ymgymryd ag arholiad cerddoriaeth wedi'i raddio mewn Cerddoriaeth Glasurol a Jas neu Gerddoriaeth Roc a Phop, a pha un ai a ydyw am wneud hynny yn wyneb yn wyneb neu'n ddigidol. Ond a wyddoch chi, yn ogystal â dewis darnau o'n rhestrau helaeth o repertoire, gall ymgeiswyr hefyd ddewis perfformio un o'u cyfansoddiadau eu hunain neu, yn yr arholiadau Cerddoriaeth Roc a Phop, ddewis eu cân eu hunain? Neu, mewn perthynas â'r rhan fwyaf o'n hofferynnau Clasurol a Jas, gall ymgeiswyr ddewis perfformio Graddfeydd ac Arpegios neu Ymarferion/Astudiaethau/Dyfyniadau Cerddorfaol yn yr adran Gwaith Technegol? Ac y rhoddir prawf Byrfyfyrio fel opsiwn yn yr arholiadau Cerddoriaeth Glasurol a Jas a Roc a Phop wyneb yn wyneb? Drwy gynnig amrywiaeth eang o opsiynau, o ran y mathau o arholiadau sydd ar gael a'r ffyrdd y gellir eu teilwra i ddewisiadau a chryfderau personol unigolyn, ein nod yw cefnogi athrawon drwy gynnig dysg deilwredig sy'n cynnal sylw'r myfyrwyr.

Profiadau o gerddoriaeth fyw

Ffocws y rhan hon yw sut all pobl ifanc ddysgu am y broses greadigol ac atgyfnerthu eu sgiliau trosglwyddadwy. Mewn amser, bydd y ddwy raglen weithgarwch yn cael eu datblygu i gefnogi ysgolion i gysylltu â pherfformwyr cerddoriaeth ac arbenigwyr yn y diwydiant, ond mae dwy lefel i'r Arts Award, yn arbennig, a all eich cefnogi chi i fodloni'r amcan hwn:

Mae rhan C Arts Award Explore yn canolbwyntio ar y broses greadigol. Felly, yn ogystal â chymryd rhan mewn o leiaf dau weithgarwch celfyddydol, archwilio gwaith o leiaf un artist ac un sefydliad celfyddydol, a rhannu eu profiadau gydag eraill, mae'n ofynnol i bobl ifanc greu un darn o waith celfyddydol, gan ddogfennu'r broses greadigol gyfan.

Ar gyfer y rheini sy'n awyddus am brofiad mwy galwedigaethol, mae Uned 1 dyfarniad Aur yr Arts Award yn annog pobl ifanc i ddatblygu eu hymarfer celfyddydol eu hunain. Yn Rhan A, mae hyn yn ei gwneud hi'n ofynnol iddynt weithio gydag ymarferydd o ffurf newydd neu wahanol ar gelfyddyd, genre neu ymarfer i ysbrydoli darn newydd o waith. Yn Rhan B, mae disgwyl iddynt hybu eu datblygiad gyrfa drwy gymryd rhan yn ymarferol mewn lleoliadau gwaith, gwirfoddoli, hyfforddiant a gweithdai.

Dysgu a chefnogaeth broffesiynol

Mae'r datblygiad proffesiynol a'r adnoddau a gynigir yn y cynllun wedi'u dylunio i gefnogi pob ymarferydd cerddoriaeth, o arbenigwyr cerddoriaeth ac athrawon ysgol i'r rheini sy'n gweithio yn y Blynyddoedd Cynnar, gyda phlant sydd ag anghenion addysgu arbennig ac anableddau a lleoliadau daarparu eraill. Mae'r cymhwyster Tystysgrif i Addysgwyr Cerddoriaeth a gynigir gan goleg Trinity yn rhoi hyfforddiant mewn addysgeg, cynllunio a chyflwyno cerddoriaeth, ymarfer myfyriol, rheoli ymddygiad, cydraddoldeb, amrywiaeth a chynhwysiant, a diogelu, sy'n rhoi sylfaen i roi hwb ymhellach i ddatblygiad proffesiynol parhaus. Wedi'u cyflwyno gan ddarparwyr cwrs cymwys, mae gennym raglenni yn canolbwyntio'n bennaf ar addysgu offerynnol/lleisiol ac addysg gynradd, yn ogystal â'r rheini sy'n benodol i'r Blynyddoedd Cynnar a phlant sydd ag anghenion addysgol arbennig ac anableddau.

Gwella cydraddoldeb, amrywiaeth a chynhwysiant

Drwy gydol y blog hwn, rydym wedi pwysleisio'r ffyrdd y mae cefnogi dysg gerddorol i bawb wrth galon gwaith coleg Trinity. Rydym yn canolbwyntio ar ddewis: dewis pa gymhwyster sydd am ddangos orau gallu myfyriwr, pa ffurf asesu sydd fwyaf addas iddo, pa ddarnau y mae eisiau eu chwarae, a pha sgiliau yr hoffai eu datblygu.

Yn achos myfyrwyr y mae angen gwneud addasiadau ar eu cyfer i gyflawni'r arholiad - er enghraifft, amser ychwanegol neu ddarparu profion mewn print mawr neu ar bapur lliw - gellir gwneud cais am hynny ar dudalen Music special needs ein gwefan. Gall myfyrwyr dyslecsig a myfyrwyr sydd â nam ar eu golwg fynd i wefan RNIB Bookshare lle all unrhyw fyfyriwr cymwys geisio nifer o'n cyhoeddiadau, gan gynnwys llyfrau repertoire a hen bapurau theori, yn rhad ac am ddim. Ceir rhagor o wybodaeth ynghylch y gefnogaeth sydd ar gael i fyfyrwyr ag anghenion addysgu arbennig ac anableddau ar ein blog.

Yn y DU, mae gennym Gronfeydd Mynediad Cerdd a Drama a'r Arts Award, sy'n galluogi athrawon neu gynghorwyr, yn eu tro, i wneud cais am grantiau bach i gefnogi dysgwyr sy'n wynebu rhwystrau i gymwysterau celfyddydol coleg Trinity.

Creu cerddoriaeth gydag eraill

Mae creu cerddoriaeth ar ei fwyaf hwyliog wrth berfformio gydag eraill, a, gan amlaf, dyma beth sy'n annog pobl i barhau i chwarae neu ganu drwy gydol eu bywyd fel oedolyn. I blant oedran Cynradd, rydym yn cynnig Perfformio Cerddoriaeth mewn Bandiau drwy ein partneriaeth â Rocksteady. Fel arall, os ydych yn chwilio am ffyrdd i gydnabod cynnydd eich ensemble, gall ein Tystysgrifau Grŵp fod y dewis gorau i chi. Ar gael ar dair lefel - Sylfaen, Canolradd ac Uwch - caniateir unrhyw nifer neu grŵp o offerynnau ac nid oes unrhyw restr repertoire benodol, er y rhoddir rhestr gorawl fynegol.

First experiences

As the name suggests, the First experiences programme of work is about providing access to a wide range of musical activities to all 3-11-year-olds. Depending on your setting and the young people you work with, you might want to consider the following:

Our new Awards and Certificates in Musical Development have been designed for any music setting: for learners working individually, in the classroom or any other music-making context. Each learner's musical achievements can be recognised through any type of music-making activity, and learners are assessed through a process of ongoing observation within their sessions by their music leader. Designed to formally accredit the Sounds of Intent Framework of Musical Development, the accessibility of these qualifications means that they are not only appropriate for learners in SEND settings, but could also be embedded into this context as part of Early Years and Primary music learning too.

Alternatively, Arts Award Discover is all about exposure to the arts, complementing the ethos of the First experiences programme perfectly. See how many music-related art forms your young people can identify, take part in a minimum of one (or as many as you like) arts activity, find out about a musician, composer or songwriter, and share what they have learnt and enjoyed with others.

Music pathways

The Music pathways section of the plan, encompassing all learners aged 11-16, acknowledges that there are those who participate in music-making with a view to progressing into a future career path, and those who do so for health and well-being purposes. Progressing through the graded music exams has, historically, been one of the most common ways of achieving this progression and, with exams now available in both Classical & Jazz and Rock & Pop, face-to-face or digitally, there have never been more options available to students to enable them to play to their strengths and achieve their goals.

For those perhaps looking to develop musical skills which are not performance-based or on instruments no encompassed by our range of graded music exams, Arts Award can provide a great alternative. From rapping and DJ-ing to composing and record production, Arts Award is a brilliant way of ensuring young people can continue to progress in their art form, whatever that may be! Furthermore, from Silver onwards, we see a shift in focus from learning and participating in the arts, to honing in on their chosen art form, exploring possible career options, and developing the leadership skills they might need in the workplace.

All of our Grade 6-8 exams, Arts Award Gold and Level 3 Awards & Certificates in Musical Development are fully regulated and carry UCAS points, supporting young people with the next steps in their chosen career path.

Music tuition

Trinity's broad range of qualifications is all about providing choice, which is fundamental when supporting students to harness their talent and individual ambition. As mentioned earlier, a student might start off deciding between taking a Classical & Jazz or Rock & Pop graded music exam, and whether to do it face-to-face or digitally. But did you know that, in addition to selecting pieces from our extensive repertoire lists, candidates can also choose to perform one of their own compositions or, in Rock & Pop exams, select an own choice song? Or that, for most of our Classical & Jazz instruments, candidates have the option of performing Scales & Arpeggios or Exercises/Studies/Orchestral Extracts in the Technical Work section? And an Improvisation test is given as an option in both Classical & Jazz and Rock & Pop face-to-face exams? In providing a wide range of options, both in the types of exams available and the ways they can be tailored to an individual's personal preferences and strengths, our aim is to support teachers with offering individualised learning that keeps students engaged.

Live music experience

The focus of this strand is on how young people can learn about the creative process and advance their transferable skills. In time, two programmes of activity will be developed to support schools in connecting with music performers and industry professionals, but there are two Arts Award levels, in particular, that can support you in meeting this objective:

Part C of Arts Award Explore focuses on the creative process. So, in addition to taking part in at least two arts activities, exploring the work of at least one artist and one arts organisation, and sharing their experiences with others, young people are required to create a piece of artwork, documenting creative process throughout.

For those looking for more vocational experience, Arts Award Gold Unit 1 encourages young people to develop their own arts practice. In Part A, this requires them to work with a practitioner from a new or different art form, genre or practice to influence the creation of a new piece of work. In Part B, they are expected to advance their own career development through practical involvement in work placements, volunteering, training and workshops.

Professional learning and support

The professional development and resources proposed in the plan are designed to support all music practitioners, from music specialists and schoolteachers to those working in Early Years, SEND and alternative provision settings. Trinity's Certificate for Music Educators (CME) qualification provides training in music pedagogy, planning and delivery, reflective practice, behaviour management, equality, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding, providing a foundation from which further COD can be sought. Delivered by validated course providers, we have programmes focusing largely on instrumental/vocal teaching and primary, as well as those specific to Early Years and SEND settings.

Improving equity, diversity and inclusion

Throughout this blog we have highlighted the ways in which supporting musical learning for all is at the heart of what Trinity does. Our focus is on choice: the choice of which qualification is going to best demonstrate a student's ability, which assessment format suits them best, which pieces they want to play, and which skills they want to develop.

For students who require adjustments to be made to the delivery of their exam - for example, additional time or tests to be provided in enlarged print or on coloured paper - these can be applied for on the Music special needs page of our website. Visually impaired and dyslexic students may also like to visit the RNIB Bookshare website where many of our publications, including repertoire books and past theory papers, can be obtained free of charge to any qualifying student. More information about the support on offer for students with SEND can be found on our blog.

In the UK, we also have out Music & Drama and Arts Award Access Funds, enabling teachers or advisers, respectively, to apply for small grants to support learners facing barriers to Trinity's arts qualifications.

Making music with others

Making music is most fun when performing with others and, most often, it's what encourages people to continue playing or singing throughout their adult life. At Primary age, we offer Music Performance in Bands through our partnership with Rocksteady. Alternatively, if you are looking for ways to recognise your ensemble's progress, our Group Certificates might be the option for you. Available at three levels - Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced - any number or grouping of instruments are permitted with no set repertoire list, although an indicative choral list is provided.
