Preparation for Trinity's Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) focuses on the development of authentic communicative skills and on building the confidence to use English in real life. In this activity extracted from the GESE Schemes of Work, learners must initiate and maintain conversations by asking and answering questions in an authentic exchange of information with their peers.

Spiral talk

'Spiral talk' is a 20-minute activity that is currently available for GESE Grades 5 and 6 (CEFR levels B1.1-B1.2), but could be adapted for additional levels.

Using the included handouts, learners are expected to:

  • Initiate and maintain a conversation
  • Practise asking and answering questions
  • Exploit the lexis and language functions of the Grade
